Iran Refutes US Negotiations Claim

(MENAFN) Iran's ambassador to Pakistan flatly denied Wednesday that any negotiations — direct or indirect — have taken place between Tehran and Washington, directly contradicting a wave of speculation surrounding back-channel diplomatic contacts.

"No negotiations -- direct or indirect -- have taken place between Iran and the United States so far," ambassador Reza Amiri-Moghaddam said in remarks carried by a state-run news agency.

Amiri-Moghaddam went further, leveling a pointed accusation at Washington, charging the US with "betraying diplomacy." He maintained that Iran has consistently pursued dialogue and a peaceful resolution but was left with no choice but to defend itself in the wake of the recent military escalation.

The ambassador drew a careful distinction between diplomatic consultations and formal negotiations, acknowledging that "friendly countries" are engaged with both sides — but stressing that such efforts "do not constitute negotiations" and serve only to lay groundwork for potential future dialogue between Tehran and Washington.

The 15-Point Plan on the Table
The denial lands against the backdrop of a reported US peace framework. According to The New York Times, Washington delivered a 15-point proposal to Tehran via Pakistan, covering Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs as well as maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz — though Amiri-Moghaddam's remarks cast doubt on how seriously Tehran is engaging with the document.

A War With a Mounting Death Toll
The diplomatic standoff unfolds as the human cost of the conflict deepens. US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, ongoing since February 28, have claimed more than 1,340 lives — among them then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has answered with drone and missile barrages against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military installations, inflicting casualties and infrastructure damage while rattling global markets and severely disrupting international aviation.
